Rick the Stick #491

Good morning!
Exciting news! We’re counting down the next 10 strips that will lead to #500!! FIVE HUNDRED!! We’re also kicking off Milton 3.0 today. During the week, I’ll post a graphic that shows all three. Let me know what you think.
Thanks for dropping by!
Ken
I’ve enjoyed the Rick superhero story line! Rick looks like he’s yet to realize this attention getting potential: he’s rich, has no shame (that I recall at the moment), and can fly!
Thanks Rob! There’s something else – RIck’s horrible memory. In this case jarred by banging his head. I’m hoping everyone likes where this is going!!
Milton is definitely taking on a new look. His facial structure has changed, makes him look younger. One thing that gets me about today’s strip is how Milton’s expression is the only one in the Manners family that changes during the TV broadcast, I think he realizes something….or just passed gas.
I like the idea of Rick waking up from being a super hero and not realizing what he’s done. Kind of a split in his psyche from the selfish self to the selfless self. He’s sporting one heck of a Superhero hangover, guess all that adrenaline took a toll on him. Not saying your totally selfish Rick, I mean after all you did think of buying gifts for yourself so that the family could give them to you…wait, bad example.
I like how his hair is limp as well, kind of tying his wig in with his feelings, I knew he and that hair were a bit more attached than it seemed. The last panel is really cool, I like the all black background with Rick outlined. Oh and yes Rick, we all recognized you were starved, I mean look at ya, your thin as a stick.
I think Milton’s parents were too mesmerized to move. A superhero in Muprhywood?
Great pickup already on your second paragraph. Gotta hand it to you – you’ve been dialed in for a while in this strip and I appreciate that!
I thought the hair thing would go a little ways – especially since most of us wake up with bed head! And don’t encourage him eating too much – remember the tater tots…
Every time I read what tmcelmurry writes, I look back at the strip to what he’s talking about and I usually feel…I don’t know- like and unobservant idiot for missing what he talks about. And 99% of the time, I totally agree with him.
Great strip today, love the idea of Rick losing every memory of his super hero-ing.
Steph,
I just love looking at the finite details in Ken’s drawings. A lot of the times he’ll have things in the background (signs, pictures, etc.) that are just a little different, and his sub characters have evolved a lot (check out the archives). If you haven’t checked out TGT’s Webcomics Podcast with Ken Drab from back on Jan 5th you really should. He talks about a lot of his inspirations, and in one section he talks about how some of the artists he enjoys have little elements that change from panel to panel, not really hidden elements, but just suttle things. It’s cool to see that style of art still being used in strips today.

Haha – relentless…AND AWESOME!
Thanks Steph! Todd is definitely dialed in on the strip and like I mentioned above, I appreciate that.
