Good morning!

Hope you had a great weekend! I had a super one – I was fortunate enough to start out Friday by waiting in line for an iPad2. I’m not typically the type of guy to head out and stand in line for most things, but I was completely compelled to get an iPad this time around. You see, I wanted an iPad when they were first announced and unveiled last year – but I waited. I waited for the second generation, which I had hoped would have a camera.

My patience paid off.

I waited in line with some really nice people including a guy (Lorne) who writes for TheiPadfan.com and was well versed on some of the apps – since he writes reviews for that site. Coincidentally he had a boy the same age as mine so I was able to get an idea of some great book titles.

I got in line just before 12:30pm and was about 70th in line. It was a picture perfect day with clear skies and the temps in the high 60′s and a little breezy. I actually got sunburn! Apple and the International Mall here in Tampa did it right. They offered everyone in line water and iced tea all day. They had porta-potties set up in the parking lot and security was everywhere. The Apple employees were in high geek mode and the mood was great.

As I mentioned, I was about 70th, there was a small line of people in the mall and everyone else was outdoors. Here are some photos of the line, the crowd and the store.

Fifteen minutes after 5 I was in, 10 minutes later I was out.

Notice the front end of the store was pretty bare as they were only letting people in for the iPads.

Any way, I was in the store within 15 minutes and after a short wait on the inside line, I was greeted by an Apple employee who took me to my iPad (after trying to upsell me on some items. I should note he wasn’t pushy and I expected as much – after all that’s business and I am a stockholder!). I was on my way back to my car within 10 minutes. I didn’t need any help setting up the iPad, but I should note that if you decide to skip the 15 minute setup, be aware that your device won’t work without being synced first. So it’s useless until then.

Overall, I’m excited. I’m interested to see what opportunities lie within the tablet market – and I know one thing. The Rick the Stick app looks better on the iPad than the iPhone. Regardless, I recommend both – since they’re free!

One final note: if you’re from Chicago or heading out to C2E2 this weekend, I will be there with my cohorts from the Webcomic Alliance. Look for us!!
