Happy Humpday! Is it starting to feel like Xmas?

Some people are offended by “Xmas”. The whole substituting X for Christ. I offer this up as food for thought… X could be a tipped crucifix… Could represent X – oops sorry…I mean Christ having risen. You see it’s all how you frame it. Okay, probably shouldn’t have gone there… besides it totally ignores the other holidays and the commercialism they’ve come to enjoy!

Let me start over…

Is it beginning to feel like selling season? All the sales, the mayhem, people dying to get into Walmart! Aaaah, you can almost smell the wrongful death lawsuits!!! Cynical? Nope. Depressed? Not at all. Why all the bah-humbug? What else are ya gonna do for a Humpday blog post? I mean, a wonderfully mediocre comic strip is right above this Damndest Damn Blog and it’s a lot of work to TRY and be humorous!

Wednesday: Click, Click, Click…

It had been a year and we decided to have a garage sale and get rid of some stuff that never really made it out of being unpacked from our move to Tampa. Two of our neighbors decided to join in, so we were having a “MEGA GARAGE SALE”.

Being a designer, I made up some flyers. NOTE: this was pre-RocketBoy. We procrastinated and ended up hanging them up the night before the sale. It took us until nearly midnight to hang about thirty flyers in about a mile and a half radius from our house – hitting all the key intersections with arrows on the signs for direction.

When we were about 27 signs into it when a strange thing happened. I was hanging my sign on a busy intersection using a staple gun when I heard something in the distance. It wasn’t close enough and sounded like someone talking and I paid no attention.

Until it started getting closer.

When I could make out the sound I turned my head around to see an older woman (say 60-something) walking towards me yelling “CLICK, CLICK, CLICK! CLICK, CLICK, CLICK!”

Interesting in it’s own right, but it appeared that this woman was intoxicated as she walked criss-cross through the intersection – and never looked. My first concern was…she could get hit and I don’t want to be up all night filling out a police report. My second thought was, I’d hate for someone to ruin their car. Finally, I was thinking – is this woman drunk, on drugs and am I going to have to punch an old lady?

My final thought was justified as she came within six inches from me yelling “CLICK, CLICK, CLICK”. I couldn’t see her hands so I had no idea if she had a knife or anything else for that matter. It’s just strange when someone walks across an intersection with obviously no regard for their own safety so I thought I should be ready for anything.

Regardless, when she got that close, I turned towards her and I think my size startled her and she stumbled back a few feet, still yelling “CLICK, CLICK, CLICK”. I then was able to discern that she only had a cigarette in her hand so I lowered the staple gun a little. Very manly, I know.

That’s when the fun started.

“What the f**k are you doin’?” she slurred.
“Just putting up some garage sale signs”, I replied trying to control the situation.

Then came the line that instantly became a classic to me.

“Nobody wants to buy your s#!t”!

Amazed at the greatness I had just heard I uttered, “you’re probably right”.

Me agreeing was totally lost on her, but it got better. The greatness was quickly eclipsed by the awesome…

“You can’t just walk around click, click, click and click, click, click…no body’s gonna buy your s#!t! No body wants your s#!t!! I know where you live! No one wants to buy your s#!t!”

I leaned towards her and said – “well I know where you live too.”

She stopped, thought about it a second and turned to walk away mumbling click, click, click and other gems until I couldn’t hear her anymore.

I stapled the last corner of the flyer and headed back to the truck where my wife was waiting.

Michelle asked, “what did she say?”

Good Monday morning everyone!

Hope you had an awesome weekend! I actually had a great one myself – unfortunately my wife was sick, I spent an incredible Saturday doting on my 11 week old son. It was great – there was no Gator football game so I was focused entirely on him while mom got better – which she did. Sunday was great as well as we discovered that he fit into the jogging stroller and took him for a walk in the great weather. I also got to give my lawn some much deserving lawn. I take a lot of pride in my lawn so the last eleven weeks have been hard. Our sprinkler system is on the fritz so it hasn’t been watered like I’d like.

On to the strip. I stayed up past 3am on Saturday night to finish up the week’s strips, so I wasn’t stressed on Sunday…that is until my wife set off the house alarm at 8am. Man that thing is loud. I’m confident I won’t sleep through that thing anytime soon. Regardless, I’ll be doing some writing and getting a good jump on next week so I can get ahead again.

One final note – if you haven’t looked into Twitter – it’s pretty cool. My first thought is – why would anyone want to know what I’m doing right now – but it’s pretty much what your status is on Facebook – and if you sign up for Twitter (FREE), you can have your twitter posts update your Facebook status. Pretty darn cool right there. Technology is cool I tell ya!!

it’s Monday. Welcome to Monday, would you prefer a booth or hi-top?

Monday. That’s good and bad. Good because I get to have my comic strip posted and I get it in my email every morning. There are worse emails out there – most use the word “enhancement”. It’s good because – well that’s it.

It’s bad because we have to start the work week and I don’t feel like I got a break from the last one. I’m tired from the weekend of traveling to and from Gainesville and spending hours in the mall getting my wife an iPhone – and for the record – that was AT&T’s fault. Regardless, I’ve never been this far behind in getting a week of strips together. I have Monday through Wednesday inked and Thursday and Friday sketeched and ready to go. Someone call the wahmbulance…

I plan on kicking some arse this week, but I’m slammed at work so we’ll see how it pans out. I won’t miss a deadline. I may mess up the feed, but I won’t miss a deadline!!!!

I had a debacle with a diaper change at the AT&T store yesterday and that will be featured in Wednesday’s post. I was going to use it for today, but it’s turning out to be a little longer than I had planned – so I’ll post part one Wednesday and part two on Thursday. Spoiler alert: It includes lots of poop.

Good Monday morning! It’s time for another informative edition of:

RTS Update!

If you’re reading this through the Interwebs, that crazy new-fangled contraption made of a series of tubes delivering your information by trucks, you may have noticed the site has a new look. Yes that’s right we’ve gone from a two column post format to a three column. Let the wild and craziness begin! You can actually post comments on any strip at the bottom of each days comments. Cool!!! Do it!! Let me know what you think! Don’t be chicken, I can take the criticism, I think… *cringes*

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve gotten some phenomenal feedback from my wife, friends and co-workers. It’s great to have an awesome network of people to help improve the strip. This is a three year journey and we’re 8 months into it – if you haven’t already – let me know what you think. Also – look for Rick The Stick’s group on Facebook and feel free to join. I hope to be doing some give-aways sometime around the holidays.

I’ve had a problem maintaining my schedule trying to get ahead with the strip because I’m trying to use my lunches to toggle between producing sketches and now a midday workout. And it’s not working out as well as I’d hoped. Part of the problem is now I’ve gotten into a workout contest with some co-workers and well, as with everything, I hate to lose. So now I have to figure out a way to do my sketches and workout in 60 minutes during lunch…oh which by the way needs to be eaten in there too. Me thinks something is not going to fit in there. Oh well!!! The show must go on and it’s not about me bitching about something I love to do!!!

The Damndest Damn Blog

Here’s an ugly confession: I’m a glutton for food.

There. I said it. It’s disgusting, I can’t control myself. I looooove to eat good food. As a resuly, I’m at my heaviest right now and I look like a tub of goo. I’m done with it though and I’m here to confess and bury my gluttonous sins. Below are some of the things I could think of. I’m sure there are others, probably more interesting than some of the one’s listed here, but remember…this was at one sitting.

Top 10 Things I’ve Overeaten in My Life (at one sitting):

10. A stromboli and calzone -they were good. I could go for both right now…
9. A cake – looove me some cake
8. Six Sabrett hot dogs with mustard and kraut – best hot dogs out there
7. A whole large pizza and ten wings – I think I’ve actually eaten a pie and a half in a drunken stupor, but I can’t remember
6. Two ‘Five Guys Burgers and Fries’ double cheeseburgers and order of fries with mayonnaise and ketchup – these are instant-crapification…delicious and I just had them last Friday…for shame, FOR SHAME!!!
5. A full bag of mini Reese’s Cups – not as much shocking but all the work that went into unwrapping those little buggers…
4. Six glazed donuts EVERYDAY after high school – chased with a Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper or Root beer…not sure why I wasn’t fatter sooner.
3. Twenty White Castle Double Cheeseburgers – and hours in the bathroom…
2. Ten pieces of French Toast – Dad served ‘em up, I knocked ‘em down! With a couple glasses of Whole Milk! Thank you Louis Pasteur!!!
1. Three pound burger – with a dinner salad…for lunch…eaten in twenty minutes. Had another burger and wings that night for dinner…

There you have it. Not really proud of some of those, others I think are quite impressive if I do say so myself. But like I said, I’m done with it. I’ve given myself until my son’s first birthday to lose the weight. If I really care about seeing him grow up, I think I owe it to myself to trim down, eat sensibly and resist the temptation. Wish me luck!!!
