Happy Monday everyone! While you’re in your office, cubicle, or at your desk settling in for a nice long day of work, I’ll be settling in for an awesome day of drawing. I’m very excited – I took today off to catch up on the strips. As of Sunday night, I only have Monday and Tuesday done. I completely blew through the little buffer I had because of the following…

Wow. What a weekend! I got to spend an exhausting 48 incredible hours with my brother, sister-in-law and their “energetic” daughters – my nieces. We went to the Florida Aquarium on Saturday and Bowling @ Splitsville on Sunday. Doesn’t sound like a lot huh? Well we ate. A LOT! For Starters we had lunch @ Pane Rustica on Saturday and dinner @ their hotel in the Westin on Harbor Island. The girls were talkative the entire time. What’s amazing is they do gymnastics and were bouncing off everything no matter where we were. Crazy. Sunday featured an awesome brunch @ Jackson’s, once again in the Westin and after bowling, I made dinner @ home. Steaks and Shrimp. The girls only eat chicken strips or some form of it. Or pasta. That’s pretty much it – so they had chicken strips. In between eating and playing, there were lots of going here and there and herding the kids. Not to mention our little four month old guy – who btw – was spectacular. Despite spending an inordinate amount of time in his car seat or stroller, he rarely had a meltdown. When he finally cried a little bit, my sister-in-law quipped – “wow! he does actually cry!” He even fell asleep in the bowling alley. Lots of special family moments including over 200 pictures for the weekend.

Regardless, I’ll be working live on the web today at some point. Check my twitter feed or facebook for updates on times. They only last an hour or so before I usually have to take a break. There’s only video, but there’s picture-in-picture so you can laugh at my ugly mug in the bottom corner…and see me hack up a lung as my allergies are going ballistic right about now.

Hope you had a great weekend! Mine went well with the first live broadcast of drawing my strip. I was around 1am on Saturday night while everyone slept. It was pretty smooth and I enjoyed doing it – even had someone come in and watch for a while. You can too as I plan to do another couple of strips today (took a vacation day). Tuesday’s Top Ten: Things I Can Do Without For The Holidays

10. Gimmicky sales days like “Black Friday”, “Cyber Monday”, “Super Santa Saturday”. Okay, I made the last one up.
9. Commercials mimicking the classic holiday stop-motion specials. Yes ALLTEL I’m talking to you!
8. The Maxwell House commercial from twenty years ago where the kid comes home and wakes everyone up with the smell of coffee.
7. News reports on how retailers are hurting. Excitedly, I rush out only to see the malls are packed.
6. News reports of George Bush flipping the switch for the tree at the Obama House. That’s gonna tick off at least one person on the email list!
5. Eggnog. Every year I think I like it, then I have some only to become sick to my stomach.
4. Not getting toys for Xmas. I don’t know when it became acceptable for me to stop getting cool loot.
3. Mall elves. Sorry little people, I know this is “your time of year” but I don’t get a time of year and it’s kind of creepy.
2. Holiday movies. I get it. They all lived happily ever after.
1. Holiday compilation CDs. Do I really need to hear Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson belt out the songs that have been done 150 million times before? NO!

Bah Humbug. Next Tuesday maybe I’ll do a Top Ten about what I like about the holidays…but right now, after writing and rereading that list…I’m too *peeved* to think about it.

It’s Humdinger Humpday!!! Wooohoooo! Thanksgiving eve! Hopefully if you’re traveling you’ll be safe, if you’re with loved ones you’ll feel love and if you’re driving you won’t drink!

I have strips through the end of the week scheduled, but I’m going to forgo the blog to make sure I get my quality time with my loved ones! Lovely, lovely Friday – oooooh how I missed you! Hopefully you’re entertained by the strip this week. Speaking of which, I got word back this week that Rick The Stick will be published in the California Times. That’s the California University of Pennsylvania school newspaper that it all started at back in…oh…let’s just say a while ago. I’m very proud to be back and I can’t wait.

If you know someone at a college/university that would be interested in running RTS for free, shoot me an email and I’d be happy to offer it up. I have print ready files of every comic, so I can get them started immediately.

First of all I would like to take a moment to thank all the awesome veterans and current men and women in uniform of this great country. I appreciate all that you do and I do not take the freedom that you help provide lightly. Thanks again.

Now onto the not so important stuff: Welcome to Tuesday’s Top Ten – Worst Generic Nicknames

Why the worst generic nicknames? I think it’s just lazy to call people by these names. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve used most of these on the list. On the other hand, I think it’s cool to call someone by these in an endearing way – such as #10′s Dude: “dude, I know you’re hanging on for dear life from the edge of that cliff and I just want you to know dude – I’ll look after your girl.”

10. Dude – an oldie but a goodie, still…overused…period.
9. Brother/Bro/Brah – seriously? We’re not related and you’re not my brother-in-arms.
8. Sport – demeaning – in that way i love it, but still do not love to be on the receiving end of that one.
7. Chief – could be culturally offensive, but again – demeaning.
6. Amigo – why? why on earth would you use amigo?
5. Cuz – retro and we’re not related.
4. Pal – I’m not your pal. This one is usually used just before a fight breaks out.
3. Buddy – this one is used to try and break up the fight and is the feminine version of pal.
2. Fella – the 1950s called and they want their word back – along with soda pop and golly.
1. Homeboy – just plain stoopid. If fella was the 1950s, this was the 1970s. Lets keep it there please.

The last one actually gave us a derivative that was one of my favorites when it was hip to call someone homey – made most famous by the Wayans brothers “Homey D. Clown” on In Living Color. It was made even funnier to me and my white brethren as we would say it to one another and think we were cool as a result. “Homey don’t play dat”. We actually thought it was so funny that we got a pig we were going to pass off as Vietnamese and named him…you guessed it…Virgil. No – I’m just kidding…Homey!!! Oooh “past Ken”, why were you never cool?

Anyway, one final thanks to our Veterans. I hope everyone is off to a good week.
