Now onto the not so important stuff: Welcome to Tuesday’s Top Ten – Worst Generic Nicknames

Why the worst generic nicknames? I think it’s just lazy to call people by these names. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve used most of these on the list. On the other hand, I think it’s cool to call someone by these in an endearing way – such as #10’s Dude: “dude, I know you’re hanging on for dear life from the edge of that cliff and I just want you to know dude – I’ll look after your girl.”

10. Dude – an oldie but a goodie, still…overused…period.
9. Brother/Bro/Brah – seriously? We’re not related and you’re not my brother-in-arms.
8. Sport – demeaning – in that way i love it, but still do not love to be on the receiving end of that one.
7. Chief – could be culturally offensive, but again – demeaning.
6. Amigo – why? why on earth would you use amigo?
5. Cuz – retro and we’re not related.
4. Pal – I’m not your pal. This one is usually used just before a fight breaks out.
3. Buddy – this one is used to try and break up the fight and is the feminine version of pal.
2. Fella – the 1950s called and they want their word back – along with soda pop and golly.
1. Homeboy – just plain stoopid. If fella was the 1950s, this was the 1970s. Lets keep it there please.

The last one actually gave us a derivative that was one of my favorites when it was hip to call someone homey – made most famous by the Wayans brothers “Homey D. Clown” on In Living Color. It was made even funnier to me and my white brethren as we would say it to one another and think we were cool as a result. “Homey don’t play dat”. We actually thought it was so funny that we got a pig we were going to pass off as Vietnamese and named him…you guessed it…Virgil. No – I’m just kidding…Homey!!! Oooh “past Ken”, why were you never cool?

Good Monday morning everyone! Hope you had a great weekend! I was fortunate to make some ground on getting back to having the strip done the week before it runs.

I was also fortunate to receive some advice from a webcomics pro – Brad Guigar of Evil, Inc – check out his strip if you can. He also does two others and works at the Philadelphia Enquirer. Funny thing that ties me to the Philly Enquirer – I used to do ads for one of their largest automotive advertisers – Gary Barbera – let’s just say my ad agency fired HIM!

Wow! Monday’s here already!!! Hope you had a great weekend!! I had a crazy weekend including one of my brand new caps falling off… While I was eating… Then my wife threw it out. GREAAT!

The bad news is I have never been so close to a deadline – my buffer of prepared strips has been at least a week since my son was born, but now I have Monday and Tuesday done. Yikes. I don’t even have the other strips sketched out yet!! Horrible.

The good news is – the website has been revamped and I can’t wait to get some feedback on it. I’ve updated the header as well as completely overhauled the New Readers section which basically is the character page. Each character now has an additional page with loads of information – including some never revealed background information. Each character also has their own Facebook page too. Links are on each of the characters pages – or you can just look through my friend list.

The bad news is I won’t have a Top Ten or Story this week as I try and catch up – wait…that might be good news – depends on who you ask…

Friday…ooooh, lovely Friday. Well if you’re me, you took today off. I’m spending the day with my boy and we’re gonna do some cool stuff. Stuff like, talk gibberish and fart and poop and spit up on ourselves and take some naps.

Well, naps for him. Work when I can for me. I would love to spend all my time with him, but I need to make time for Rick The Stick too – right? I got so caught up in posting videos at lunch yesterday, I almost forgot to crank out some of the comics…yikes!!! As it is, I only have two sketched out so I’m EXTREMELY behind. I’ll be staying up late tonight and this weekend to get caught up. I have to. I must. I will!!!! With that in mind – YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT FANTASTICO WEEKEND!!!

Good Monday morning! It’s time for another informative edition of:

RTS Update!

If you’re reading this through the Interwebs, that crazy new-fangled contraption made of a series of tubes delivering your information by trucks, you may have noticed the site has a new look. Yes that’s right we’ve gone from a two column post format to a three column. Let the wild and craziness begin! You can actually post comments on any strip at the bottom of each days comments. Cool!!! Do it!! Let me know what you think! Don’t be chicken, I can take the criticism, I think… *cringes*

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve gotten some phenomenal feedback from my wife, friends and co-workers. It’s great to have an awesome network of people to help improve the strip. This is a three year journey and we’re 8 months into it – if you haven’t already – let me know what you think. Also – look for Rick The Stick’s group on Facebook and feel free to join. I hope to be doing some give-aways sometime around the holidays.

I’ve had a problem maintaining my schedule trying to get ahead with the strip because I’m trying to use my lunches to toggle between producing sketches and now a midday workout. And it’s not working out as well as I’d hoped. Part of the problem is now I’ve gotten into a workout contest with some co-workers and well, as with everything, I hate to lose. So now I have to figure out a way to do my sketches and workout in 60 minutes during lunch…oh which by the way needs to be eaten in there too. Me thinks something is not going to fit in there. Oh well!!! The show must go on and it’s not about me bitching about something I love to do!!!

The Damndest Damn Blog

it’s Tuesday and as promised it’s my original idea of taking ten things and counting them backwards until I get to number one – got it? This is a totally new idea so don’t steal it.

TOP TEN VEGETABLES I CAN LIVE WITHOUT

10. Turnips – it’s a root.
9. Beets – a vegetable that has NUTTY flavors? USELESS – we have nuts for that. Show me a nut that has veggie flavors and I’ll be impressed.
8. Okra – is there another vegetable that is tougher to eat? Give me the peas in your pod! Okra would be better used as a fabric or something.
7. Rutabaga – Fun to say, but a cross between cabbages and turnips – MAKE UP YOUR MIND!
6. Rhubarb – You have to ask? Well no, I’ve never had it either, THUS IT MADE THE LIST OF VEGETABLES I CAN LIVE WITHOUT!
5. Yams – call them sweet potatoes and get off my back!
4. Radish – useless garnish. Sounds like something you catch as in an STD. “Andy was doing great until he got Radish. Yeah, now he has to walk sideways. Poor guy.”
3. Leek – the national vegetable of Wales. Prince Charles isn’t he the something of Wales? Need I say more?
2. Chicory – it’s a bitter vegetable – and it’s really bitter because it didn’t make #1 on my list. Which leads us to…
1. Stephen Hawking – seriously. Black holes EMIT radiation? I thought a black hole’s gravitational field was so powerful that not even visible light (“electromagnetic radiation”, by the way STEPHEN!!) could escape!! How could it do that AND emit radiation?? I mean his Hawking Radiation theory (the EMIT radiation thingy) is based on a theory (black holes). C’mon Cambridge AND Oxford? Someone’s a little bit of an *over-acheiver*!!!! Here’s a theory: someone didn’t get laid muuuuuuuch! “DO YOU WANT TO PLAY A GAME?”

I did this whole list so because I thought adding Stephen Hawking would be funny, then I realized he’s not a vegetable, just nearly completely paralyzed because of ALS.

I’m going to hell.

Good Monday morning! Hope you had a great weekend!!!

I will probably type that nonsensical sentence into about 5 or emails today. Not that I don’t really mean it, it’s just that no one is going to say “Hey, I did have a great weekend. Ken really cares!! What a guy.” It’s more like “Oh, email from Ken. Great this is going to be a pain in my ass. Blah, blah…great weekend…blah, blah blah”.

With you, oh gentle reader, I really do care. I want you to know if you had a bad weekend, I’m here for you. Rick is too. If there’s anything we can do…really. (EDIT: This was the part where I intentionally was going to add a link for you to submit your bad weekend story. But the reality is that the link would have brought you to a site that crashed your computer. I’m telling you this, because if you have a sick sense of humor, you would have laughed at someone who clicked the link and crashed their computer – unless it was you and you’d want to kill me – or at least hurt me and I don’t want any of that…)

Anyway! On with the Darndest Darn Blog!

We’ve established today is Monday and I had an AWESOME weekend getting the strip illustrated. I actually got six days done and four more set up to illustrate. It takes a little bit to set them up, so I got that out of the way. That means in the mornings while you’re still sleeping, I’ll be hard at work inking these puppies up.

I think I have a great week lined up. The strips aren’t so much funny (are they ever?), as they are designed to move the story along with Winchester, and finishes the week with a double sized strip! You see??? SIZE DOES MATTER! I SAY SO!!! Monday and Tuesday are double sized as well which I thought was necessary to help tie the storyline up and build some intrigue. That’s right! I SAID INTRIGUE!!!
