Good morning!
Don’t know if you noticed or if it makes a difference, but on days where Rick is not in the strip (rare) or in this instance, his mouth is taped (like yesterday), then his mouse-over effect (hover) will not appear.
Thanks for dropping by!
Ken
Do they have a Bar Louie near you? Best restaurant tater tots.
No sir. And after seeing those horrible ‘Tater Taunt’ commercials from Sonic, I’ll never try those. As my son starts eating different foods, I need to get some tots into the mix!
Rick’s about to bust loose. Tater Tots are his true calling. These fella’s have something to their advantage now. If they promise Rick Tots he’ll tell them what ever they want to hear, in fact he may even confess to being in Dallas on November 22, 1963 if it means Tots.
Well now that Rick smells Tater Tots we know for sure who these guys are, see the Halloween Candy Caper 10/5/2009 thru 10/30/2009 (http://rickthestick.com/web_comic/state-of-mind/). This has CMS written all over it, but once again I could be wrong. These guys have been busted once, so they may be reformed (minus the kidnapping) and looking for a way to bring CMS down.
You’ve managed to tie in tater tots and the Zapruder film? Awesome!
Ok, I’ve to add another post just to comment on a few things.
First Today’s Strip Design:
Dude, you have come a super, super long way since you first started drawing Rick, I am so impressed with your artistic growth, both in drawing and in writing. Today’s strip is another proof of how far you’ve come. Let’s examine a few of the really impressive parts:
1. The shading. Your combination of Gray, white, and Black in today’s strip is awesome. The Silhouettes, the shading on Rick’s hands, feet, and hands with the light, the cloth around his eyes, and most impressively the shadow Rick is casting.
2. Body language. You have 3 panels where Rick is not saying anything, but yet thru his body language (the hand moving, the finger up) you can tell he is conversating with a gag in his mouth. Even the body language of the Silhouettes express a lot, the hands raised, the body’s turned a little here and there, you can mentally see their facial expressions as they talk to Rick based off how their body language.
3. The addition of color to accentuate something. The Hearts in the last panel.
Next is the writing:
1. Rick in today’s strip only has a single panel speaking part, and yet he talks all the way thru the strip (refer back to the body language). Thru your unwritten writing you’ve shown that Rick, even though blind folded, gagged, and wrapped up by his own appendages is still talking with his captors as though his mouth were free. Very funny.
2. The conversation between the henchman and then Rick. As the strip starts you can tell they are hard pressed to get information from him, almost in a threatening way, but yet as the panel moves on and they realize Rick is excited about something they turn more to a curious approach, and then to have Rick deliver a zinger about smelling Tots, that was a really hilarious ending to today’s strip, very well delivered.
The last is the comedic angle. Here we have Rick, tied up by his appendages, but yet if he wanted to all he would have to do is lean forward and use his free hands to release the tape and blind fold, yet he doesn’t. Also, once again the fact that here is Rick in a kidnapping type situation, and yet the only thing he can think of is whether or not he smells Tater Tots.
You deliver great stuff daily Ken, and this strip is a fine example of it.
Wow! Thanks Todd!!
As someone who’s constantly seeking approval – this is exactly what the doctor ordered – and will be framed.
I think I’ll get some wallet sizes too!
@tmcelmurry – A critical analysis of the strip? You beatnik!
I think I lost all my street cred with the analysis of the strip.
I’ve been reading RTS for quite a while, and I am just blown away by the art and writing improvement Ken has brought to this webcomic. If you haven’t yet, I challenge you to go back thru the archives, starting at the beginning and read your way up….or better yet buy the “Flushtered” book and read it then go back in the archives to where the book ends and pick back up from there, you’ll find yourself on the beatnik wagon too.
Zoiks! Someone’s pushing for an unpaid promotion to head of marketing! Wait. I hold that job. Wait – you do a better job than me! Crazy man, just crazy!
Thanks again Todd!
Hahahaha! BTW – I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the word beatnik!
